I Found It!!

I have seen this particular pattern posted in forums before, but it was as a scanned copy of an old project sheet that was no longer available. It was designed by Lily Sugar & Cream, and distributed by Michaels.. I have strained my eyes till they felt like they were crossed trying to read it with a magnifying glass! The type was in gray, which already makes it more difficult for me to see, and the scan was in jpg format, so if I tried to enlarge it, it blurred even worse. I have wanted this pattern so badly. You know how that can be. We see something we like, and then because it isn't readily available, we want it even more. Guess it's only natural to want what you can't have. BUT, all is not lost! I found the pattern not on the Lily Sugar & Cream site, but on the Bernat site. I would love to post a picture, but I'm told that is not legal, SO. . . . . . . here is a link to the pattern.

If you've had this pattern forever, just don't tell me! lol

I was planning on making it as a trivet instead of a dishcloth.  I'm guessing I will need to use double threads.

Don't know when I will get around to giving it a try, but I feel more content just knowing I have the pattern.

Yes, I'm Crochet KrAzY!!

Hello again!

I was just at Walmart and picked up a copy of the new crochet magazine, Crochet 1-2-3. I was impressed first by the price, it's only $3.99!! That's about half what the others are selling for these days. To be honest, the $7.00+ that others are getting lately is  just more than I can spend. Even a subscription is a lot for the other mags. This magazine is selling subscriptions for $12.95 a year according to their ad in the mag.
How cool is that?!!
I'm posting a link to their web site for you here: http://www.crochet1-2-3.com/latestissue/

Beautiful color pics and printed on high quality glossy paper. (100% recycled paper)

I especially liked the pattern for the Hearth in the Corner Afghan pattern, and also the Fall's for Shawls pattern.
I'm going to get the yarn next week when I'm in town, and get started on the shawl.

I would highly recommend you pick up your own copy when you are near a Walmart. Oh, I keep saying the "W" word because they are the only ones that carry it right now. Crocheter's every where will be scooping them up!!

Hi Everyone!

As I'm sure you are painfully aware with all the ads etc, we are electing a leader for our country in the near future. I won't go into my personal thoughts about who it should be, but I want to ask you to join me in a movement that is gaining strength across America. It's being called 40 Days of Prayer for America. If enough of us  humble ourselves and pray for our country, we can make a real difference. There are several places online that you can join in, but of course you can just do it on your own. Here's a link or two for different places you can check out:

I hope you will join in and pray for our country.
God Bless you and yours, and God Bless America!!

Hey Everyone!

So what have you all been up to lately? I've got 3 projects that I've just finished to post here for you to see. I'm starting something new this evening. Yippee! Always exciting to start something new, and there's so much I want to do that it's hard to choose what to do next!! lol

I got a new pattern book, and this is first project I've completed from it. It's made with Caron Simply Soft, and I used 2 strands. This is a blend of two colors, Pagoda and Harlequin. It measures about 74" long and I think it was 8" wide.

This is one of my favorite patterns of all. The scarf is called Blossomy, and can be purchased on Ravelry for only $1.99! Here's a link: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/blossomy
This is also made with Caron Simply Soft. I guess it's obvious that is about my favorite yarn to use. :-)
It's called Country, and is a shade of Navy.

This is a smurf hat I made for my daughter-in-law's little nephew to wear for Halloween. Yep, he's gonna be a Smurf! He's just a little guy. His Mama asked me to make it for him, and I was happy to get to do it. It's a free pattern I found on Ravelry. Here's a link:  http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/smurf-hat-2
There's a contest you might want to check out. It's Red Heart yarn giveaway!! I'm always happy to enter any contest for yarn!! I am posting a link so you can read all about it.

I also would like to make you aware of a couple of the newer free patterns on Caron's website.

Here's the link for the Free Pattern: http://www.caron.com/projects/ss_light/ss-light-triad-shawl.html

Here's link to the Free Pattern on the Naturally Caron site: http://www.caron.com/projects/ss/ss-outofthebox.html

I'd also like to feature a pattern that can be found on The Snarled Skein site. It's a Baby Snuggle pattern. Really cute pattern. This is the picture shown at that site, and here is a link to the pattern also:

Please send pictures of your creations and tell your friends about my blog. I'd love to sign up a lot of new members! Until next time.....

My Latest Creations

I've been working on several projects over the past few weeks. I went to the store without anything particular in mind, and pick a skein of this and that according to the colors that caught my eye. So, I ran out of yarn on nearly everything I started, and had to go back and buy more. Not a good method, but I just wanted to start a new project. Hadn't made up my mind. So here's some pics of the finished projects I've done so far.

Infinity Scarf
The pattern for this one can be found here: http://www.redheart.com/free-patterns/infinity-scarf-0

Rah Rah Ruffles Scarf

The pattern for this scarf can be found here: http://www.redheart.com/free-patterns/rah-rah-ruffles-scarf

Sporty Footies

The pattern for these can be found here: http://www.freepatterns.com/detail.html?code=FC00804

On the Town Shawl
I made this using Caron Simply Soft yarn, my favorite, and used a Red Heart pattern I got here: http://www.redheart.com/free-patterns/town-shawl  The pictures don't really do the colors justice. This is a really beautiful variegated yarn. The pattern calls for a G hook, but I used an H. So, it's quite a bit wider than it would have been.  I had a little difficulty with the pattern when it came to the edging, so I just picked another edging and used it instead. I'm working on another shawl from this pattern, and I am gonna give it another try from the pattern. Hopefully I will be able to get it accomplished. My brain fog was just too thick that day. lol

Blossomy Scarf
I used Caron Simply Soft on this scarf also. The pattern I purchased on Ravelry here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/blossomy  I really have enjoyed this pattern. It was priced very reasonably at $1.99, and there are no restrictions that I found for this pattern in regard to selling your finished project. I played with the pattern a bit and added the flower to the center of the motif on the ends of the scarf. I like the way it turned out, and it gave it a little different twist.

Rose Tendrils Scarf
I have to go back and find my pattern for this one also. I don't remember the correct name of it or where it came from. I t was not a difficult one to make, and this is the one I'm keeping for myself. I will correct the name of the pattern and tell you where to find it as soon as I can find it to correct my post. I really like the pattern and am happy with how it turned out. I made a little shorter than the pattern called for to customize it to my own personal use.

Can a Designer of a Copyrighted Pattern that I Purchased, Prohibit me from Selling the Projects I make from the Pattern?

Something that has been bugging me is buying a pattern, and then finding it says I can't sell what I make from the pattern. In my mind, I paid for the pattern, and should be able to do what I choose with my work. I have bought a couple of patterns recently and although I didn't find it disclosed anywhere in the description of the pattern that I was not allowed to sell my creations, it was at the end of the pattern as part of the copyright info. I was not aware of this till AFTER I had paid for the pattern, and I printed it out. That experience prompted me to begin looking online to see what I could find out. On http://www.purplekittyyarns.com/info/copyright.html there is a whole page that is dedicated to copyrighted crochet patterns and what it entails. Although I'm not real happy with what I learned, this is a quote from that page that answers my question in a pretty straight forward way.

What works are protected?

Copyright protects "original works of authorship" that are fixed in a tangible form of expression. The patterns, step-by-step instructions, charts and accompanying photographs are copyrighted. **Any finished product made from a copyrighted pattern, step-by-step instructions, chart, or photograph is also covered under copyright law, therefore, you cannot sell any finished product made from a copyrighted pattern without first contacting the publisher or designer to request and receive permission to do so.**

There is much controversy over the fact that a finished product that you make is copyrighted. It is the law, nonetheless, since it is the author's expression that you have reproduced and the fact that you have reproduced a copyrighted pattern does not eliminate the copyright protection.

All of the patterns sold in this, (the purple kitty yarns site) ,online store are copyrighted by the publisher and/or designer. Purchasing the pattern does not remove the copyright protection of the pattern, it merely gives you the right to reproduce the author's copyrighted work for your personal or charitable use. You are free to make as many projects from your purchased pattern(s) for your personal use or for charity donations. However, you are not allowed to make items for commercial use without express permission from the publisher or designer. Please respect the copyright on these patterns and do not sell a finished product made from one of these patterns without first obtaining permission from the publisher or designer. It is the law.

So the long & short of it is that they can prohibit you from selling what you make from their pattern, even if you bought the pattern, and made the item yourself.

FYI, http:/www.freevintagecrochet.com has loads of free patterns, but according to this, we are NOT allowed to sell anything made from those patterns.

Still doesn't seem quite right to me, but they didn't ask me. :)

Now I Can Start Something New!!

It's done! I finished the baby afghan I was working on when last I posted. I used Bernat Baby Softee yarn. The pattern is found in a Leisure Arts publication & is shown as Afghan #2. The name of the book is; Absolutely Gorgeous Baby Afghans Book 4.The white one is the pattern I used for this project. I have removed the photos that appeared here earlier since I have been advised that it was copyright infringement. I thought it would help if you could see what the book looked like. Oops!

Here's a picture of the finished project.

I have used this pattern before, and was pleased with the way it turned out. But, I like this one even better. I like my color choices better this time, and I changed the border a bit.I added the shells around the last row.

Happy hooking!!
